This Side of the Grave by Jeaniene Frost
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I always love to read about Cat and Bones. I have to admit that I was expecting something completely different than what happened in New Orleans but, I was not disappointed. I love to read about Marie Lavoux too! There is just so much about her to work with in stories so I grab most things I can read that delve into anything about her even if it is just a glance about her true history. This book had a few surprises in it and I have to say some of it was quite hard on me especially since I listened to the audiobook. The narrator, Tavia Gilbert, did very well with the voices! I loved her accents for Bones. This was just a fun and good read.

Blood Magic by Tessa Gratton
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I had a hard time with this book and not because the author did not tell a good story. She did a wonderful job telling the story. It was very well written. The details written to describe things were very thorough and the cover says it all, vivid. What I had trouble with was not in the quality of the story or character descriptions because both of those were done very well. I will not make the mistake of making her rating suffer because the story really was good and did it's job and made me see what Reese, Nicholas and Silla went through. It was so well told that it parts were hard to read. You really care about these characters. I do not want to give any spoilers because this feels like a story that everyone will walk away from with something different. For me, I had trouble seeing beyond the family's history, both families really. It was so hard for me to ignore because the author told it so well and books that are well written draw me in and Blood Magic did that.
